Phi Alpha is an honor and a group of social work students that support one another through the demands of the MSU Denver social work program. The Western Michigan University Master of Social Work Student Organization was established in 1969. Since then, the organization has dealt with the problems and issues that have confronted and affected social work students at Western Michigan University. The organization also acts as a liaison between students and faculty. The officers conduct the meetings, record the minutes, and represent student concerns.
A lifelong commitment to excellence, recognition for academic excellence, camaraderie, and support are natural outcomes of Phi Alpha membership. Students are invited to join Phi Alpha, Chi Delta Chapter based on their eligibility. At the beginning of each full semester (fall & winter), academic criteria is reviewed for all professional BSW & MSW students. Eligible students will receive a letter of invitation to join via their student e-mail account. To recognize those professional social workers whose service, contributions, and leadership are held in esteem. Over 450 chapters are now in existence, and the addition of new chapters is continuing.
The formal organization and constitution were completed in 1962, and six chapters qualified to become “charter chapters.” To recognize those professional social workers and others whose service, contributions and leadership are held in esteem. The Chapter Service Program supports chapters in organizing new recruitment. Chapters may ask to receive up to $100.00 towards an event or meeting.

Three Illinois State University School of Social Work students have been recently inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society. The Illinois State University School of Social Work has had a chapter of Alpha Phi for over 25 years and many of its students have been inducted over the years. This organization targets the unique stressors that students within CHHS face in pursuit of their education and preparation to work in the field of health and human services. By incorporating an interdisciplinary approach, this organization encourages students to work collaboratively with other disciplines in the field of human services.
Phi Alpha offers membership to social work students, faculty, and practitioners. The National Council is the policy-making body and meets each year at the time and place of the annual program meeting of the Council of Social Work Education . Each chapter has one voting representative on the national council. To recognize and promote scholastic achievement among students and faculty involved in the undergraduate and graduate social work program at the University of Missouri-Columbia. To recognize and promote scholastic achievement among students and faculty involved in the undergraduate or graduate social work program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Becoming a member of the Phi Alpha National Honor Society is a wonderful recognition of all the hard work students are doing for academic excellence.
If for any reason you are not eligible, this money will be refunded immediately. GSA is comprised of an executive team (2 co-leaders, treasurer, and secretary), student organization leaders, class representatives and a number of other representatives from the student body. GSA organizes community events, provides conference scholarships, shares student concerns with GSSW leadership, and provides a forum for GSSW students to discuss issues that are of concern to them. During the interviews the student will be preparing a Resource Book especially for their senior partner.
The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chair of the standing committee, and the faculty advisor. To encourage continued study and research at the undergraduate level, the graduate level, and in professional practice. Attendance at the virtual initiation ceremony is required for membership. Must be a junior or senior already admitted into the BSW program and completed a minimum of 9 hours in Social Work at USI. Joining one or more student groups will augment your education and provide opportunities beyond those found in the classroom. Phi Alpha organizes multiple research events each academic year, including the annual student research symposium in the Spring.
