When you walk across the stage tell the world of your involvement with Phi Alpha with our Honor Cords, Medallions, and Stoles. Phi Alpha inducts superior students junior and senior year. Dr. Danielle Swick is the faculty advisor for our Phi Alpha chapter.
A faculty advisor is assigned to Phi Alpha and participates in regular meetings and Society activities. A faculty member in the undergraduate or graduate social work program shall serve as the faculty advisor. The faculty advisor shall forward to the Treasurer of the Executive Council the national initiation fee for each student and faculty initiate prior to his or her acceptance into membership. Once the petition is approved by the national office, a charter membership is granted to the institution. This chapter of Phi Alpha shall be affiliated with the organization known as Phi Alpha Honor Society and to its National Council. The Constitution, membership and program shall be consistent with the Constitution and Statutes of the national organization. Completed 8 semester hours of required social work courses. All Phi Alpha members are required to participate in the Phi Alpha community service project organized by the Phi Alpha officers and members to maintain membership. We, the Student Association of Social Workers at the Metropolitan State University of Denver , are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others in our community while enhancing the student experience of our members.
The name Phi Alpha was adopter from the local chapter existing at Florida State University. At the student level, the benefits of belonging to Alpha Delta Mu include access to educational and supervisory support from mentors in the local chapter. Mentors may be upper-level seniors, graduate candidates or social work professionals who are society alumni participating in chapter activities. Mentors often pair up with students individually but chapters also use them to host study groups for comprehensive exams. A group of undergraduate social work students at Michigan State University conceived of a national social work honor society in 1960. After investigating, they determined that local chapters at three other schools.
A faculty member may be granted by invitation of the Executive Committee and approval of the Chapter membership. The Chapter shall maintain accurate records of its membership, activities, and finances. Such records shall be kept in such a way as to serve as a permanent and historical record.
The meetings are open to all M.S.W. students and membership has no requirement other than being a student in the M.S.W. curriculum. Phi Alpha is a highly selective honor society for social work graduate and undergraduate students with over 225 chapters in the United States. Phi Alpha is a national honor society dedicated specifically to social workers across the U.S.
Pay continuing membership dues, every Fall and Spring semester until graduation. Distinguished members have earned national or international recognition for their contributions to social work education, research or practice. Additionally, post-secondary schools must offer degrees at baccalaureate or higher levels in social work and maintain program accreditation from the Council on Social Work Education. Affiliation with CSWE demonstrates that curricular studies contain relevant, evidence-based instruction designed to encourage superior scholarship and professionalism in the field. This Constitution may be amended by a majority vote of the Executive Committee and upon ratification by a three-fourths vote of the active chapter membership.
Michigan State, those three schools and a few other schools formed a National Honor Society Committee in November 1960. This committee worked on the constitution and other administrative matters. The name Phi Alpha was chosen since that was the name of the local chapter at Florida State University. The SWC has carried out several educational projects, which have involved the University as well as provided a service to the surrounding neighborhoods.
